Of all plastic surgery procedures, nose enhancement, or rhinoplasty, is among the most common. Nose enhancement can be performed on any part of the nose to increase or reduce its size; to modify the size and shape of the nostrils, tip or bridge of the nose; or to alter the slope or angle of the nose. Rhinoplasty may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing. Dr. Harris is trained in ear, nose and throat, and facial cosmetic surgery, which provides you with the highest level of training and expertise.
Dr. Harris performs rhinoplasty under local or general anesthesia depending on the complexity of the operation and the patient's wishes. In most cases, he uses an open rhinoplasty approach to lift the skin of the nose. This method allows for excellent exposure and access to the underlying nasal cartilage and bones. Following surgery some discomfort can be expected, but can be alleviated with cold compresses and medication prescribed by Dr. Harris. You can usually return to work or non-strenuous activities within a week or two. Strenuous activities may be resumed within a few weeks.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is one of the most popular aesthetic operations performed throughout the world, especially in groups historically classified as “ethnic.” In the United States, European culture has dominated the standards of beauty for centuries. We believe the global age of beauty is now upon us, however, where cultural nuances of beauty can not only be accepted, but embraced and celebrated.

The Center for Aesthetic Modernism strives to create an enlightened platform which honors these diverse cultures and new standards of beauty. The nose, along with the eyes and mouth, are external windows giving us a glimpse into our underlying ethnic heritage. Dr. Harris believes in the “less is more” theory, and that surgical alterations should be viewed within a broader cultural perspective. It is not about changing one’s image to suit mainstream beauty standards, but to appreciate aesthetic diversity and to contribute to the evolving definition of what is beautiful.

Nasal Analysis

The Center is the first in the nation to offer Face Sculptor, three-dimensional facial simulation also available from Canfield Sciences. This innovative technology allows Dr. Harris to show you what you can expect from both surgical and non-surgical procedures. This goes beyond simply communicating your goals and expectations by visually demonstrating them. The 21st century approach for facial rejuvenation focuses on techniques to improve complexion, restore volume loss, and combat gravity-induced sagging. Procedures currently available in Face Sculptor include Rhinoplasty, Chin Augmentation and Injectable Fillers. Often, Rhinoplasty and Chin Augmentation go hand-in-hand as Dr. Harris uses his artistic eye to create a balanced facial profile. Using Face Sculptor, Dr. Harris can visually present the implications of needing the double procedure, if applicable. Adding fat or synthetic fillers is also a great technique in achieving a more youthful appearance. Dr. Harris can show you the aesthetic advantage of performing this simple in-office procedure. This incredibly modern tool allows you to choose the rejuvenation plan that works for you; often one aligned with Dr. Harris’ “less is more” theory.

Genetic Ancestry Testing

The Center for Aesthetic Modernism offers a suite of genetic testing to define your ancestry and ethnicity. Why do we provide this service? An individual’s race is complex and includes both a cultural and biological feature. Physical differences are often accompanied by cultural differences. We firmly believe that every individual has their own unique heritage that helps define who they are. This is a connection our team seeks to nourish. Dr. Harris can use DNA to learn about the past of his patients, allowing him to better understand the present. By opening the conversation and awareness of cultural sensitivity, Dr. Harris is truly revolutionizing the way we look at the face.

The ethnicity DNA test will provide a global view of your overall genetic makeup and provide an estimated percentage of ancestry from the following groups:

Africans (Sub-Saharan)
European (Europeans, Middle Easterners and South Asians such as Indians)
East Asians (Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Pacific Islanders)
Native American (those people who migrated to inhabit South and North America)

If you seek information on individual heritage, we do offer more in-depth testing. These include Maternal Ancestry, Paternal Ancestry, Premium Kit-21 Markers and add on Europa, Native American, African, Central Asian extended Match results. African Ancestry in DC.
