Probably no advance in medicine has had more of an impact than
the development of laser surgery. Lasers work by emitting a
powerful beam of light, which causes a superficial burn of the
skin. As new living cells replace layers of dead skin cells the
skin tightens and grows back smoother and wrinkle-free. Among
the advantages of laser surgery are that there is usually no
need for general anesthesia or hospitalization and there is no
cutting or blood involved.
Lasers are effective for treating sun-damaged skin, mild acne
scarring, age spots and skin discolorations, and many facial
scars and wrinkles. Other conditions that respond well to laser
surgery include spider and/or varicose veins, and lasers are
quite effective for hair removal
and tattoo removal.
Lasers range from in-office procedures to requiring general
anesthesia for CO2, full face resurfacing. Recovery time varies
again from same day treatments to two to three weeks for
complete recovery.
Dermabrasion is another resurfacing tool that acts as a
mechanical sander which also helps smooth out your skin. This
can be done in the office or operating room depending on what
areas would benefit from treatment. |
