Biography

Dr. Monte Oyd Harris is an internationally recognized authority in cosmetic facial rejuvenation and hair restoration.  He is double board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.   A surgeon, scholar, and entrepreneur, Dr. Harris is devoted to exploring humanity with an aesthetic compass.  At a time when beauty culture is characterized by excessive and sometimes harmful cosmetic procedures, Dr. Harris stands out for pioneering a beauty-centered approach to achieve and sustain holistic well-being.  His groundbreaking work is at the place where self-image intersects with health and heritage.

Dr. Harris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morehouse College and received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While undergoing postgraduate training at the University of Michigan, Dr. Harris completed over six years of subspecialty surgical training concentrating exclusively on the head and neck. He furthered his expertise in aesthetic surgery with an additional year-long dedicated fellowship with one of the nation’s leading facial plastic surgeons.  His avant-garde approach to beauty and wellness is global in scope, and has attracted patients from countries as varied as the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Nova Scotia, and Afghanistan.

Dr. Harris is a leader in a burgeoning group of aesthetic practitioners who aspire to reclaim the spiritual power that lies in lifting up the connections between beauty, health, and identity.  His Chevy Chase, MD-based Center for Aesthetic Modernism is recognized for pioneering research and innovative approaches to healthy aesthetics.  The Center was the first clinical practice in the United States to adopt 3D facial imaging technology as a consultation tool, and Dr. Harris played a key role in helping Canfield Scientific, Inc. develop that technology.  More recently, he has served as a lead research advisor for the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage – Will to Adorn Project and as a Sanaa Circle board member for the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.  In 2013, Dr. Harris was honored with a Maharishi Award for the area of Health and Wholeness.

Dr. Harris has received numerous business innovation and leadership awards, including being recognized as a Minority Business Leader by the Washington Business Journal and selected as a Top Doctor in Black Enterprise and Washington Post magazines.  Before launching the Center for Aesthetic Modernism, Dr. Harris was the visionary and co-founder of Cultura Medical Spa.  He currently holds clinical assistant professor appointments at Howard and Georgetown universities and has authored several articles and book chapters focusing on African aesthetics and ethnic facial plastic surgery.  He has been a regular, featured guest on a variety of national television, newspaper and magazine outlets, including the Today Show, CNN-Hollywood, TV-One, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Ebony, and Essence.

Dr. Harris is happily married with two children. We welcome all our patients to join our family here at the Center for Aesthetic Modernism.
